Lily's Glasses

When we returned home from vacation Lily's glasses were ready. She was so excited. It was like she was getting a present or something. It almost made you cry when she put them on because she looked up at Nick and said "Daddy I see you better"....
She is doing really well with wearing them. Her nose is so little that they seem to slide a bit. I am sure that we adjust and re-adjust them. I am so thankful that we were able to get her to the doctor and help her see better at an early age.
Well, another update on our family. It has just been on big blurr the past few weeks for me. On Wednesday of our vacation, Mom called and said that daddy had gone for a colonoscopy and that they had found colon cancer and that they would do surgery the next day. It was heart breaking to be so far and way and not be there for my Daddy. The surgery went well, they took 18-20 inches out. Upon returning home from vacation, I unpacked everything and got groceries for the house, cooked several meals for kids and Nick as well as ironed him a couple sets of work clothes and then Sunday night I was off to see Dad at the hospital. I do not think that I have traveled that much since I was in high school on a band trip! Daddy was able to come home on Monday and he doing ok, extremely sore. So on Tuesday morning Mom went to have a skin cancer removed and they had to cut a bit deeper than expected so now her arm is sore. So today I left Mom and Dad's house sad. Both sitting there not feeling well waiting on phone call from the doctor to know about the pathology. Not a good feeling. I am home now mentally and physically exhausted!

THE BEACH

Beach Here We Come!
This year is the first vacation of this distance and length that we have ever taken all three children. We decided to take out one of the bucket seats in the van and it worked great. I could see the kids better and I could have the ice chest and bag of goodies and toys all within my reach. The kids all had their own bag of toys and pillows and blankies. We had planned to leave early, early, but Nick and I were both exhausted for the day before and we ended up leaving around 7:30 Saturday morning. The trip wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been. We really liked the location of our house and that particular part of the beach wasn't real crowded. It could not have worked out better. I took tons of pictures at the beach. The kids loved playing at the beach every morning. It was late if we were not out there by 8:30. We went to the Gulfaruim one day, rode the little kiddie rides, fed alligators and explored the area. I also got to do a little bit of shopping one afternoon while Nick kept the kids during "nap time". NO nap that day of course.
Lily liked playing in the sand and going out in the deeper water with Nick!

Win liked splashing around in the water and especially dumping and throwing sand on everyone!

Emma loved riding in the tube. I think as she gets older, she will just want a raft and float in the ocean all day. She had a good time in the water, but did not like going out too far.

We went to Fudpucker's and fed the baby alligators. The kids really enjoyed it. Lily just loved petting the alligator. It was like she thought it was a cat or something.

I took tons of photos at the beach. This was my first time to take beach pictures. I hope the get better group ones next time. This time the ones of the kids turned out better.

This is one of my favorite pictures!!!!!

I loved these little dresses and the way that they showed movement.

Here is the entrance to our walkway to the beach. It was just a little ways down a path. Nice and close and easy for the family.

Here is the front porch of the beach house where we stayed. We really liked the location.

This was our last night on vacation. We drove down to Seaside and ate. The kids were on their last leg by the time we got there. It had been a long day with no nap. It was all better after we stopped by the ice cream shop.

On the way home, we had to stop off at the battle ships in Mobile, AL. I am glad we did, but it made for a long trip home!!!!

Lily Update

Monday, June 15, 2009
No pictures for today, but just wanted to do an update on Lily and her eyes. Today was her appointment at Children's. We were there for most of the afternoon, checking her vision and doing all sorts of "games" with her eyes. She was really a trooper. SO that being said she has accommodative estropia........meaning she is so farsighted that she works to focus to see and her eye or eyes cross because she is focusing to see clearly. We have a prescription for glasses and will return in a few months if all is well. It will take a week or so for her to get the glasses and then they said it will take several days for her to get use to them. Lets just hope it only takes several days to get use to them. THIS should reduce the focusing effort and straighten the eyes if not we will go to other options.

WE ARE FIVE!

Saturday, June 13, 2009
Yesterday was really Win and Emma's 5th birthday, but we celebrated it today. We have had VBS all week long and had the closing ceremony on Friday night, so Saturday afternoon was the next best thing. I say each year that I will just do a few and keep it simple and I end up tired and do more than I need too. I did keep it a bit more simple this year. I remember when they were 2, I cooked chicken and shrimp on the grill, last year I did a chocolate fountain, this year we were down to snacks, cake and ice cream. I see a pattern forming...all the same everyone seemed to enjoy it despite the hot humid weather. Win received a slip n slide, but they all enjoyed it. They played with it on Sunday afternoon.
Sugar got Win and Emma this cool aqua totter. Needless to say we waited until after the party to try it out! It would have been way too wild. Nick figured out on Sunday that he could use the pool rope and anchor it so that you are not so worried about falling off and hitting the side.

I bought not one, but two pinatas for their party. They were almost unbreakable until our neighbor, Matt went and got us two bats. The little pinata sticks were just not cutting it!!!

Emma had to have a pink shark on her cake!!!! She would not have it any other way.

Win had lots of air for blowing out his candles.
It was a fun party. It is neat to see as they get older really wanting their friends to come to the party. Before it usually was our friends that have kids coming, but this time it was more of their friends from school and church and such. I can't believe that they are five. It has been a big blurrrrrrr.
I remember the day that we were in Nashville doing IVF, like it was yesterday ...right down to becoming pregnant and DR. BATRES telling me BOO because it was at Halloween when he did a ultra sound and I found out it was twins....then a few days before they were born telling the doctor that I WOULD NOT MAKE IT UNTIL THURSDAY, then on Friday night being so miserable watching Ronald Regan's funeral on TV with Nick....I was so uncomfortable, Nick and I decided that we would go to the hospital first thing Saturday morning because I knew my doctor was on call......well needless to say I woke Nick up in the wee hours after I took a shower and was so uncomfortable I could not even dry my hair, he proceeds to ask if he could take a shower and I say yes and start ironing our clothes to wear to the hospital. We drive to the hospital sometime around 3:30 or 4 (Nick just knew they would send us home...he did not think I was in labor) to find out that I was having contractions...........sometime before 9 am they roll me in the OR (belly so big I could not see over it) and I came out like 30 minutes with Winston Lane Cavaneau and Emma Elizabeth Cavaneau.
OH what a joy they have been the past five years!
